Mad-Lib Celebrity Look-Alike Mash-Up Multimedia Movie

Concept by Lucas Marsh

Directions

1.)    Compiling celebrity look-alike image mash:

a.       Go to http://home.picitup.com/Joomla/ and upload a face picture to site. 

b.      After receiving all 5 celebrities open each individually and copy each photo above a black background layer in Adobe Photoshop

c.       Adjust the transparencies using the opacity toggle in the layer window for each layer so that at least one aspect of every celebrity’s image shows throughout the whole image

d.      Adjust the size of every celebrity image so that they are all relatively the same head size

e.      Match the heads of the figures using the chin as a reference anchor.

f.        Flatten all of the celebrity layers onto one layer using the applicable options within the Layer Window

g.       Copy the new flattened background layer using the layer window.

a.       Select the old background layer in the layer window and delete everything to create a transparent background layer beneath the new “copy of background layer”

h.      Using a black paintbrush (size 40, 0 hardness) create a feathered frame around the image and center the image using the rulers and/or grids found in view>show>grid and view>rulers.

i.         Use an eraser on paintbrush setting with zero hardness at the appropriate size (about 20-30) to just erase out the mouth region on the face area of the compiled figures – save image (celebmashtrans.psd file)

2.)    Mad-Lib – Open Microsoft Word Madlib file

a.       Fill in any words that fit with the type of word needed in the text boxes.

b.      Upon completion select all white text (don’t select the text boxes!)

c.       Turn the text color from white to black

d.      The Mad-Lib is complete and ready to read

3.)    Webcam – open “Live Central” video capturing program

a.       Make sure webcam framing is level – use shoulders to gauge.

b.      Make sure mouth is level and fully visible in frame

c.       Press the record button in Live Central.

d.      Use the back of a chair to prop up and stabilize chin while shooting.

e.      Without moving head, read the altered madlib as clearly as possible.  This may take a couple takes to get right.

4.)    Editing – Open Adobe Premiere

a.       Import celebmashtrans.psd and final video file into Adobe premiere

b.      Put black video at beginning of video 3 channel (file >new > black video)

                                                               i.      Insert a keyframe 1 second before the end of the image clip (the I/O keyframe toggle just under the VIDEO CHANNEL TITLE at the left side of the editing window

1.        press the little circle in between the two outward facing arrows to insert a keyframe  into the specified clip

                                                             ii.      put a keyframe at the very end of the clip

c.       Bring the last keyframe on the black video down to the bottom of the image clip to create a “fade” transition.

d.      Bring the video file into video 1 channel at the 1 second keyframe point on the black video

e.      Bring the .psd file into the video 2 channel at same place as the beginning of the video file

                                                               i.      Extend the image’s duration to the same duration as the video clip file on video 1.

f.        Select the video clip in the video 1 channel

g.       In the video effects window, expand the motion tab by clicking the arrow on the left of the motion box to change the position of mouth in the video clip to sync its position with the transparent hole in the mash up image.

                                                               i.      Toggle the position of the video 1 frame by selecting the clip by toggling the horizontal and vertical positioning options (move the mouse left or right) to center the mouth within the transparent hole in the mash up image.

                                                             ii.      Also within the motion tab decrease or increase the size of the mouth by toggling the scale arrow.

5.)    Audio Effects: in the effects window, expand the stereo effects tab in the same window as video effects

a.       Apply the pitch shifter effect to video 1 channel’s audio

                                                               i.      Make the pitch:  -7t

                                                             ii.      Make the fine tune:  -35 cents

b.      Apply the Parametric EQ effect and toggle the following effects:

                                                               i.      Center: 22243.8H

                                                             ii.      Q: 3.9

                                                            iii.      Boost: -20.4dB

c.       Apply the Bandpass effect and toggle the following effects:

                                                               i.      “check” the bypass button

                                                             ii.      Center: 498.2 Hz

                                                            iii.      Q:  .6

d.      Apply the Volume effect:

                                                               i.      Level: 1dB

6.)    Drag another black video starting at the last second of video channels 1 and 2 placing a keyframe at the beginning and one directly at the end of video channels 1 and 2’s clip duration

a.       Drag the first keyframe in the black video down to the bottom of the clip vertically to create the “fade out” transition.

7.)    Render the whole movie by pressing ENTER on the keyboard.

8.)    File >Export>Movie (name the file)>Save

9.)    Open WinAVI All in One Converter

a.       Convert the exported .avi file as an mp4

10.) Upload to YouTube

Random Wikipedia Art

Directions

Step 1: go to Wikipedia and get a random article

Step 2: flip a coin. Whatever you get for this first flip will be your go and the side of the coin that is facedown will be your stop

Step 3: count the number of sections in the article including references and external links

Step 4: take the number from step three and count that many links from the top

Step 5: click on the last link in your count

Step 6: you will continue on this first time and repeat steps 3-5. For the rest you will flip the coin to decide if you continue. If you get the same face as the fist time you flipped you continue. If you get the face that was down you stop

Step 7: once you have stopped you take the last link you landed on and create an image that represents the link using a set number of lines. The number comes from your last completed step 3

     * After flipping and clicking (4 rounds of steps 3-5), there were 10 sections from the article on Southeast Asia which ended up being a link to the article on Sambars.  Therefore I had to draw a Sambar (from an image off of Google Images) using only 10 lines.  There were no specifications on how the lines were to be made, so I just tried to keep my pen on the paper as long as I could for each line.  I labeled my line breaks with the circled numbers surrounding my drawing of the Sambar.  I used a black, extra fine Pilot Precise V5 rolling ball pen.

Reflections

While creating my mash-up movie, there was a great deal of systematic aesthetic arrangement involved to approach the indeterminacies of my final piece.   Although my project initially only had two variables (the celebrity lookalikes of the person participating and the words used in the mad lib), the final videos' results became essentially ambiguous in every sense, while an abstract social commentary emerged.  I did not realize that the slight movements of the mouth would interact with the semi-transparent celebrity images to mesh at random with the different facial structures in the image.  Unknowingly I had included 2 other major variables into the equation: the interaction between the subtle displacements of my mouth and the instantaneous interactions they have with the different celebrities' faces.  The second variable discovered were abstract connections and social commentary that becomes inherent  between the reading of the mad lib and the imagery surrounded by the amoebic celebrity. 

I feel slightly guilty that I created a project for Guin which involved a program which she didn't know how to use, so I helped her out a great deal to ensure that she could complete her half of this assignment.  Aside from the whole video editing aspect, Guin was an excellent partner and did an awesome job.

Guin's Wikipedia drawing creation system was a different approach to this assignment and extremely refreshing.  It was so great to only have to use technology (the internet; wikipedia) until the subject was set for me to draw.  I was lucky I landed upon an existing animal, a gorgeous creature called the Sambar.  I learned that "The Sambar (Rusa unicolor) is a large deer native to southern and southeast Asia" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sambar_(deer)).

Guin's system of indeterminacy is applicable in providing inspiration and new subject matter which forces the artist to not only think about the marks that they make, but also creating drawings of subjects in which they may never have thought of approaching.  

With my video project I really didn't have any idea as to the final aesthetics until all of the pieces came together.  I had no idea of how weird it all would be....

Idea For Indeterminacy Project

Celebrity Lookalike Generator:
I was considering using these generators available (free on the internet) to create digital self portraits.
I'm not sure if I want it to be as simple as layering the 5 images of celebrities on top of each other, or if I want to have the image vectored then traced by hand.

I'm also thinking about trying to do something animated with this idea.  Maybe talking? Maybe dancing?
maybe chopping out the mouth of the 5 figured layered image and having the real mouth of the real person (filmed with video) say something like a generic celebrity madlib biography the the person fills in using a basic program.  then they read their story and the lips move in the middle of this 5 layer skin mask.  I could see that being a social commentary of sorts: "tomorrow's hot new celebrity!".

every collision has different song all from the "God Particle" or Higgs Boson.  I hope nobody thinks this is a way to listen to "God" because that's ridiculous.  Everything happens on a quantum level.  Super expensive art project. I feel like American scientists wouldn't be able to get away with making this kind of art unless it was privately funded.

65 years from now: Predictions

If humanity hasn’t self destructed (global nuclear and biological warfare) or been obliterated by the infinite amount of cataclysmic natural disasters including super volcano, meteor etc. (or 2012 for that matter), and we somehow curb the environmental destruction and global warming, technology will be unimaginably advanced in 65 years.

A few predictions regarding technology 65 years from now:

• Efficiently engineered super foods, rationed to everybody. Food will be scarce and expensive, therefore government will have to step in and create universal food plans (like a futuristic large scale school cafeteria). 

• The age of cars will have fallen by this time; our world will not be able to afford the damage and cost to maintain this production. Public transportation will be the normal and regular, but with lack of space due to over population, transports must be brought into the air. Airplanes will be a thing of the past. Perhaps they’ll have figured out specific frequencies for electro magnetism: If solar, dark matter or even vacuum chamber miniature contained black hole (infinite source of power) powered satellites could control the transport of aerial public transportation from space. 

• To protect from elements, bio engineered super suits will shield us from the incredulous amount of UV rays and toxic gas which will exist due to excessive industrial competition. 

• Since trees are few and far between, oxygen production through bio engineered artificial intelligent super algae will have to regulate the production of oxygen throughout the countries on earth. Tanks of algae with programmed bio sensory systems to maintain sustainability of a planet raped by it’s “big-brained” inhabitants. 

• The internet will be accessed through brain implants, or perhaps within the suit. A wealth of information would be immediately downloadable and other people could be contacted just by the act of sending thoughts to other people’s suits. We will communicate and live through this wireless, speechless social network. 

• Accelerated human evolution could be a possibility. 

• Understanding quantum physics, dark matter, dark energy etc. could bring on a new age of space/time travel, and an infinite power source to tap into. 

• God (hopefully) will be proven to be a human construct. 

• America will be isolationist once again (not a technology but a necessity) 

• Capitalism as we know it will change to control the needs of our species as opposed to trends and wants (ex. Water, food, bio suits) 

• Who knows maybe we can just leach human power off the religious fundamentalist and put only them into a happy “Matrixesque” dream world and use them as an infinite power source. With the low IQ, violent, overzealous religious idiots creating energy for scientific necessity (while happily mingling with Jesus, Zeus, Muhammad, Moses, Abraham etc.), two issues with scientific development would be solved: morality and energy. 

If the earth’s nation’s can get along for a 65 more years, the future potentially could be a great place to live. Although America may be at its downfall, it’s not like America wouldn’t get the benefit of technology developed by other nations. Let’s just keep our chins up and hope for the best.

Extended Body- Polymorphic Elevating Nano Optic Flight Suit

“Every Man’s Every Day Super Suit”

Scope:

-A polymorphic suit bio-engineered to fly the owner to any destination in the world. 

-Solar powered “tractor laser” satellites control launch and drop of traveler at programmed GPS coordinates.  Two satellites needed for flight system.

-Brain Implant Chip allows for hands-free “thought programming” and satellite communication (assuming implanted brain chips are a societal normality).  This system would be a download into the chip’s storage facility, a software program available after purchase of suit has been made.  Normal use includes access to World Wide Web and other storage purposes.

Flight Procedure:

1.       A thought is sent via Brain implant chip to the satellites positioning system with launch site coordinates and drop site coordinates.  “I want to go to Thailand”.

2.      Closest available satellites begin laser charging sequences.

3.      When the satellites’ positions correspond with the wearer of the suit, the suit morphs into launch shape.  The bottom flowers open to conform to the necessary parabolic shape conducive to laser ablation propulsion.

4.      As the suit forms the parabolic shape needed for launch, the individual cells within the suit align to create optical laser channels allowing for redirection of the laser beam’s photons underneath the parabolic suit shape.

a.      The focus point of photon redistributing cells constantly changes to emulate the result of spinning the parabolic shape on its vertical axis.

5.       When the two available satellites have been positioned for launch, both release high powered solar tractor lasers at the launch ready flight suit.

6.      Satellites bring the suit high enough in the air and close enough to destination where “flying squirrel” flight can be utilized the rest of the way.

7.      After maximum height has been reached and the suit has morphed into drop “squirrel” shape, satellites’ laser tractor beams deactivate and brain mod activates an autopilot program which guides flight to landing coordinates

8.      When lowest point of flight has been reached, brain mod tells owner that the incorporated parachute is going to be released

9.      Parachute is released and landing at previously programmed coordinates is achieved

Suit: 

·         Should be worn as often as possible in order to absorb as much solar energy as possible. 

·         Made from photosynthetic polymorphic memory cloth which can become rigid when an electric current is sent through after satellites are activated and launch/flight/drop sequences have been activated. 

Inactive Shape: Coverall One Piece – Light and Nonrestrictive.

Launch Shape: Parabolic – Rigid and Immobile

Drop Shape: Flying Squirrel – rigid along the underside of arms and along corresponding sides of body as well as between the legs.  Material between these connections emulates nature material of current (2010) flying squirrel suits.

·         A “brain mod” integrated circuit chip has been implanted in the brain which allows communication between available satellites, GPS locating and re-locating.  The chip also controls the shape of the suit or the properties required to handle the solar charged satellite lasers based on the present step of the flight sequence.  

·         Cellular makeup of suit serves three major functions:

1.       Charging for launch and flight sequences.

2.      Shape changing for different stages.

a.      Pre/post launch

b.      Launch

c.       Drop/landing shape

3.      Optical nano lens focus and channel the satellites’ laser photons to lowest point of suit’s parabolic shape.  Redirection is aimed at center of suit, where the legs have been encapsulated, allowing for laser ablation principles to ensue for launch. 

·         Photosynthetic solar cells constantly charge suit. 

1. Excess energy is stored within wearer’s body like a battery.

2. Gene alteration permits excess storage of energy within appropriate cellular systems.

3. Brain chip processes the storage and utilization of energy stored for the manipulation of suit shape.

4. The suit then can pull harvested energy through the body to allow for its shape and required property changes in different stages of flight.

Satellites:

·         Global Positioning

·         Solar Powered Laser Guidance and Tractor Beam System

·         Communication uplink with Intraweb (for personalized flight suit programs)

           

Artist Statement

My “extended body” extends past the prison of my physical body: the extension I’ve created spans human consciousness, defies gravity, and reaches past earth’s atmosphere.  My “suit” embraces a culmination of hypothetical technologies currently in development, advocates for the creation of others, and combines theoretical dreams with realistic applications (and fun!).  Although our current scientific, technological and moral boundaries currently limit the production of my “extended body”, I have thoroughly outlined, visually and verbally, my plans for “Every Man’s Every Day Super Suit”.

I’ve always been somewhat of a science fiction nerd; I love the Dune Series, Ender’s Game, Stranger in a Strange Land, Kurt Vonnegut, Star Wars etc. and spend a fair amount of my free time pondering the significance of space in said time.

     

Since the dawn of time man has wished to fly: The Wright Brothers lifted the world off its feet.  So what does one do if they’d prefer NOT to bring the rest of the world with them on their flight?

Imagine human flight free of airports, airplanes, fossil fuels, sitting, overpriced drinks, bad movies, aging flight attendants, security lines, high prices and bad food. 

Imagine transmitting a thought with no physical effort to begin one’s flight to whichever destination they choose.

Imagine gliding down like a flying squirrel and peering at the landscaped through broken clouds… as opposed to double layered, plastic airplane windows (foggy and slightly sticky, of course).

Imagine landing at one’s destination via parachute.

“Every Man’s Every Day Super Suit” links photosynthetic solar charging, GPS navigation, “flying squirrel suits”, principles of laser ablation, nano-optics dynamic systems, gene therapy, electromagnetism, polymorphism, tractor beam theories and brain modification chips all together creating the best way to fly, ever. 

I’ve imagined every aspect of the conceptual design of my “extended body”.  I’ve linked numerous hypothetical technologies together to create an even more hypothetical system.   As incredulous as it seems, I believe someday this personalized flight system could become a reality (if we don’t nuke ourselves into oblivion first).
